Happy Monday!  We just got home from Salt Lake City and after being gone for a week and a half (first to NYC, then to Alt Summit), it’s nice to be back.  Yesterday I wrote about our plans to tackle #1 on my 28 by 29 list of learning to ski – and let me just tell you, it was a big fat fail.

Some crazy weather moved in fast and as we were driving up the mountain, we saw cars sliding off in to ditches and visibility was poor with fog and snow.  We had a midsize rental car that may or may not have had snow tires (how does one know if you do??), obviously no tire chains and no emergency kit with blankets, food, etc.  So we thought it best to turn around and crawl down the mountain with other better-safe-than-sorry drivers at 20 mph before finding ourselves in trouble.  When we got back on the interstate, the fog had thickened so much we missed our exit twice and snow started pouring from the sky.  It was quite an adventure, but needless to say we were disappointed that we stayed a day after Alt Summit to ski and didn’t get to.

Oh well, at least we are home and safe.  And we had a good time drinking hot toddies and watching the snow storm from a pub near our hotel, so it wasn’t a total loss.  But now I need to decide: should I replace the item on my list with something else, or try to find a place to ski close to Atlanta?

Here’s some Instagram pictures of our snowy Utah adventures yesterday – oh and by the way, when we woke up it was 40 degrees and sunny so we didn’t think to check the weather (amateurs, right?).

downtownslc2I’ll share some pictures from my “real” camera soon – the Rockies are sooo beautiful!  Parker and I would love to move out west and have those big mountains in our back yard.  Maybe one day!  For now though, it’s so nice to be writing this from the comfort of my own bed with my dog at my feet.
