These photos are killing me.  I am so in love with Sara Byrne‘s double exposure photos she recently featured on her blog.  I remember learning how to do this technique with film in college, but I was never very good at it – basically, you shoot a picture of one thing, then don’t advance your film to the next frame and shoot a second picture of something else, resulting in a double-exposed, artsy photograph .  Very tricky to master because you have to kind of have to plan it in advance and memorize the first frame while composing the second.  The best results I ever achieved were happy accidents when I accidentally forgot to advance the film…

However, Sara gives a tutorial on her blog that completely BLEW MY MIND yesterday because you can do this completely digitally, in your camera if shooting with a Canon 5D Mark iii.  There’s a great video explaining her process and you wouldn’t even believe how easy the fancy Canon makes shooting double exposures.  Sara says it feels like cheating because the old, analog way was so much harder and this new way takes all the guesswork out of it.

I’ve been on the fence about upgrading my old 40D for a while now and this just sealed the deal.  Her post and these beautiful photos have inspired me so much.  Which one is your favorite?  Mine is the very first photo (with a close second being the last one in the lineup).  Go check out Sara’s blog to read the tutorial and see more of these amazing photos.

My favorites are the first and the last as well, although I really like the second one too.
