Can we all agree that Valentine’s Day is mostly a girl’s holiday? A chance to get doted on with flowers, chocolates, and sweet nothings by their significant other. But dudes don’t necessarily get the same treatment in return because, let’s be honest, it’s so hard to get them anything fitting for the holiday! Flowers and chocolates won’t do (at least not for my husband) but this year I am so excited to have an idea that I’m pretty sure most guys will like.
Custom beer labels! Pinhole Press reached out to me to see if I’d be interested in any of their products for Valentine’s Day and when they told me about their custom beer labels, I thought it was genius. Parker loves trying new, lesser known beer and supporting microbreweries so I knew he’d love the gift, plus our picture and the lyrics to our favorite Joni Mitchell song (I could drink a case of you, darling – such a sweet song and so fitting for gifting beer, right?!) plastered over the bottles make it just sappy enough for a sweet and romantic (yet manly) Valentine’s Day gift.
And of course, feel free to gussy up the case because why not? Tis’ the season to put hearts and arrows all over everything, right?
When you order the labels, you can upload up to three different photos or designs and they’ll send you five of each so you have plenty to screw up if you’re gifting a 6-pack. :) I chose to make a quick collage for each one of some special events for us: our trip out west last summer, the day we closed on our house, and our wedding. Pinhole Press doesn’t currently have the option to make collages, so I made the collages in Photoshop and uploaded the file as one picture, but you could easily do the same in Fotor if you wanted. Or just keep it simple with one photo!
If you or your hubby don’t drink beer, this would still be a great idea for soda bottles. I love the idea of getting a variety of fun, vintage sodas and applying the same technique. Pinhole Press also makes custom wine labels too that would be neat for wine connoisseurs or for a wedding or rehearsal dinner. It’s really fast and easy to upload your design and type your text, although, just FYI – you can’t customize the font or text size, hence the word darlin‘ instead of darling on my labels. Close enough! :)
Of course, I had to share this gift with Parker early so I could get it up on the blog to share with you guys in time, but I have to say, despite getting it a couple weeks early, he loved it! I surprised him with these bottles over the weekend and he was really excited to try the different beers I picked out for him and had fun looking at the pictures from some of our favorite memories since we’ve been married. I definitely scored some wifey points with him. :) Oh, and Atlantans – I picked out my beer from Ale Yeah! in Decatur (they have tons of really cool varieties and you can pick singles of anything).
One tip: Whether you remove the original labels (like I did) or just cover them up with the new custom, pretty ones, leave the neck label on and take a picture of the original label so your honey knows which one he’s drinking and can remember it if it becomes a new favorite.
And for those of you who aren’t familiar with the Joni Mitchell song, “A Case of You,” here it is and it’s one of the sweetest songs ever (and one of the only ones I can get Parker to slow dance with me to):
