Hey guys, happy Wednesday! I’m back with my new favorite series, showing off the Instagram photos of talented people and telling you why you should be following them on Instagram if you’re not already. I didn’t even mean to, but I chose three folks that all have California in common…I wonder if this has anything to do with how excited I am for my trip there this summer? Or maybe I’m so desperately ready for sunshine? Anyway, they all live, work, and play in L.A., are talented photographers with great eyes for composition and great lighting, and share some of the best snippets of their world in to my Instagram feed.
Max Wanger – @maxwanger
First up, Max Wanger. Max is super famous. I first learned about him through his wedding photography (he shot Joanna’s engagement photos and Emily’s wedding photos) but shoots so much more than just weddings (his editorial work and fashion spreads are so dreamy). His Instagram feed is a mixture of his signature negative space style, bright colors, sunshine, his travels, sweet pup and most favorite muse: his wife Margaux, who is due with their first baby any minute now! I think the portraits he’s taken of Margaux during her pregnancy are my favorites – it’s so easy to see how much he loves her and how excited he is to become a dad through his iPhone snaps. He offers up great Instagrams but you have to see his real work – wander over to his portfolio site and get lost in his Polaroid or fashion photography for a little while. And subscribe to his blog too. Oh and he has a print shop so check that out (which one should I get??).
Jen Gotch – @jengotch
Jen Gotch! I wish we were friends, she is such a super cool chick. She co-founded Ban.do (you know, the cool accessories company that often combines two of my favorite things: hearts and sparkles), but she is a talented photographer with a print shop too (I think I have to have this print). She’s got a wicked sense of humor and a knack for putting really witty captions with her Instagram photos so I’m always excited when I see them show up in my feed. I’m such a fan, I just think she is so cool and apparently most people do too (Max Wanger shoots some of ban.do’s product photography and I see her all the time in the pictures of other Instagrammers and bloggers I follow like her bestie Bri Emery, Joy Cho and Emily Henderson). Seriously, everyone wants to be friends with this girl! (This video she’s featured in might help illustrate why she’s so much fun. That laugh!)
Sarah Sherman Samuel – @sarahshermansamuel
I’ve been following Sarah’s blog, Smitten Studio, for a while now and one regular feature she posts about is the month rounded up in Instagrams, so naturally, I started following her after seeing how awesome they were. Sarah is lots of things: a graphic designer, a crafter and maker, a fashionista, a traveler and an all-around busy girl working on projects to make things pretty (you know how much I love that). She recently took a trip to New Zealand and traveled around the country in a vintage VW bus (UH THAT IS SO COOL.) so I had to feature some of her photos from her travels. She also always surprises me at how cool her feet shots are. We’ve all seen them a million and one times right? The pictures of people’s feet where ever they are standing at the moment. But somehow, Sarah’s are never dull or expected – she always finds some graphic element that makes the photo something special and artistic.
Go check these guys out and show them some love. And follow them because your Insta feeds will have a steady flow of pretty in them and we all need a little more pretty in our lives, ya know?
PS – did you see last week’s Instagrammers?
